The Infernal Brothers feat. UNDEAD.RuNE and TriaMer & Nagato - Battle City (double feature) (BHR011)

This next release on Black Hoe is a double feature that is split up into two parts. Its first chapter beautifully describes how the Russian crossbreed / neuro daredevil’s, Nagato's music career had begun. Besides the digital nightmare, doomsday mood, and militaristic behavior that ensues the military-step themed ep Soldiers features three tracks that stay true to the ep name. Soldiers will strike You stringent snares, Close Your Eyes full of halved marching beats that will taunt you effortlessly, and all the while Difficulty will hit you with its massive 8-bit gallops forming a killer mixture.
Chapter two is of the collaboration between two compatriots and music colleagues known as The Infernal Brothers. Three tracks that will not lose in battle as its rampage will persist; Battle City seamlessly maximizes 8-bit sounds while the neurotic knocking The Legacy rattles you around and finally the previously known Soldiers in TIB transcript.

Indidjinous - Degenerated (re-stock / double feature) (BHR009)

Indidjinous returns for his second Black Hoe release (also re-stock from Golden Age) with another infusion of tribal alien warfare. Taking things down a notch, the cavernous, wallowing bass lines of Degenerated cascade beneath delicate hi-hats and shattering percussion. This spooky, halftime creeper brings visions of a humid, primordial wilderness. A washed out, ghostly amen injects energy into an otherwise snare-less take on the ultra-minimal sound. It’s centerpiece is a teched-out, mid-range bass scrawl that occupies the space between beast and machine. Duborigine is a heavyweight halftime smasher complete with trademark didjeridu accents and haunting atmospherics. A dense, stuttering sub.descends to resonant frequencies, but despite the massive bass, it’s the drums that demand your full attention. Razor sharp halftime snare-crashes set the pace, interspersed here and there with cutting break edits. Duborigine projects a fierce vibe without being abrasive to the ears.

Indidjinous - Dead Ringer (re-stock / double feature) (BHR008)

The next release on Black Hoe is a re-stock again. This one has been released on Golden Age previously and broke with the sister label’s tradition: there are no soothing melodies, smooth structures or etheral atmoshepres. We’ve got two mutilated breakbeat freaks that hark back to the good old vibes of labels like Biotic or Audio Couture. Dead Ringer's sluggish and archaic half-time intro sequence quickly emerges from the muck and mutates into a rabid, amen-infused breakbeat beast. The high-energy, warping bassline will wreak havok on the dancefloor and test the strength of any subwoofer. Indidjinous' signature didjeridu atmospherics cascade around poppy breakbeats and shuffling, reversed hi-hats in the ominous Mating Call. Thundering 808 bass spars with an alternating alien bass synth. Haunting sci-fi vocal samples contribute to the other-worldly vibes of this breaked-out heavyweight.

Tracklist:

  1. Indidjinous - Dead Ringer
  2. Indidjinous - Mating Call

Eschaton - They Come Out At Night (BHR007)

Just in time for Halloween, Black Hoe Recordings emits a haunting pair of tunes from Omni Music label bossEschatonMichael Myers Ate My Speakers With a Nice Chianti establishes the rapid pace and dark cinematic vibes that characterize this release. A rolling, skittering break spliced with distorted rhythmic percussion combines with evil whispering sound effects and deep sub-bass to round out this driving, high pulse cut. They Only Come Out at Night similarly employs deep bass and cryptic vocal samples. The presence of rhythmic blips and bleeps which actively spar with the prominent rolling break lend this track unique character.

Peter Kurten - The Time Of War (BHR006)

Over the years, Peter Kurten has been working hard to keep the darker, harsher side of drum’n’bass alive. His numerous undertakings include the Antichristus project with his brother Sinecore, his imprint Evil Beats and his signings on labels like IndependenzaUnionGenosha 175 and Freak to name a few. What are possibly Peter Kurten’s hardest and sickest visions appear on Black Hoe right now. Both tracks take place on battlefields to summons the spirit of a cruel and bloody war genocide. In 'The Time Of War' the opening bass distortion and the amenish sequence nicely outline the approaching onslaught. This track baffles the listener with its sweeping hardcore-techno kicks: total destruction! '13 Soldiers' starts with forbidding, screaming war horns and quickly devolves into a filthy, distorted bassline. A proliferation of kicks and furious snares turn this one into a grim combination of drum’n’bass, experimental and IDM.

Aggressor - Terms Of Abuse (BHR005)

The reemergence of Black Hoe Recordings is hailed by a sinister release from the aptly named Aggressor. It begins with Terms of Abuse Part 1, a dangerous halftime lurker with futuristic atmospherics reminiscent of a depleted industrial dystopia. Keenly crafted edits allow the bulletproof break at the center of this track to exude the strength of a thinly veiled arsenal. If aliens listened to gangsta rap, this is what the beat would sound like.Part 2 utilizes a similarly metallic, resonating drum kit made different by subtly fluttering kicks bordering a clanking halftime snare. A scrawling, distorted synth field buzzes in the periphery throughout giving this track a distinctive flavor.

Malicious - Anatomy (re-stock) (BHR004)

Steel Behemoth

This was the track that essentially inspired me to start working on an album. This is purely because the tune was a summative statement for my production and it acted as the wax seal on my musical manifesto - I want to make dark, atmospheric drum & bass, the likes of which has been pushed beneath the thick surface of the ‘loudness war’ of modern ‘darkstep’ (a subgenre I don’t like to label my production with). For this tune, I began by distorting and automating a sine based sub, followed by some playing around with various borrowed hardware to filter and twist up the bass that bookends each 8 bars. I wrote this at a time I was heavily inspired by music outside of drum & bass, and I wanted to experiment with texturing and foley recordings. I approached the production with my manifesto in mind, that music needn’t be coloured to the point of over production to push an idea forward - eventually I settled on using my own voice as both a foley recording and a texture, which strings the rest of the tune together well.

Puncture (feat. Kitech)

I wrote this after having been sent a project by Declan that included the beautiful synth melodies showcased in the intro, during the body of the first drop and most notably through the breakdown. It’s a lo-fi melody that screams to ‘LAYER ME’, and can work at any stage in a composition, so I exploited that - I decided it would work as the backbone of the rest of the tune. The original beat was incredibly irregular and much less saturated, but the progression in structure came naturally - bouncing ideas off each other for this tune was a really fun process.

Totem

This piece, like Steel Behemoth, was based around synth work - the bass inserts were inspired by the spacial awareness showcased in minimal techno, so I wanted to stay true to this blueprint in the general aesthetic. I decided on using a snappy snare and layering it with a tonal element - in this case, the percussive siren sound. This idea is carried out much more aggressively on the second drop as the focus switches after removing the gated rides for the first 16 bars.

Convergence (feat. Peter Kurten)

Convergence is something of a joker card in the deck. It opens up with consciously selected flute trills, inspired by mine and Pierre’s shared love for the more traditional oriental culture. This texture was complimented well by woodblocks as it made the introduction much more tangible (especially with the swamp-like atmospherics). The progression of this idea meant that to vary the arrangement and maintain the sound, pitching and swing was ideal which eventually meant the production leant itself to the more ‘minimal’ aesthetic that is increasingly popular in drum & bass (while retaining the undeniably dark edge).

Loxodonta

This was just after I bought my new microphone and I was really excited to see how it fared with recording and acoustic readings - the finger snap is my fingers, and I was really blown away by the recording. For this tune, the prime element is contrast. Saturated, stomping, almost hardcore kicks, paired with aggressive swoops and scraping metal breaks contrasted perfectly with the finger snap being given it’s own beat to reverberate naturally.

Shadow Manifest

'Manifest' is an exercise in cinematic atmospherics coupled with relentless kicks, parallel compressed and distorted rides, pitched reeses and classic hollow snares. I wanted to drop a tune into the album that revisited my origins in dark drum & bass production, when I thought saturation and confined spaces were the defining features of the genre - this tune is more for shock factor and dance floor destruction - watch the second drop.

20 Days (feat. Miss Lil L)

The plan for 20 Days was to create a break oriented tune that paid homage to Miss Lil L’s almost ‘oldschool’ tinged sound, paralleled with my more visceral snare-led style. The piano elements were added after the tune was effectively completed and they added tastefulness and believability far beyond either of our imaginations.

The Summoning

Originally called ‘The Visitor’, I wrote this tune to commemorate another element that has become lost on the modern generation of ‘darksteppers’ - this element is the far underestimated melody. Melodic leads were what gave most dark drum & bass tunes their appeal, in retrospect: for example, the Dom & Roland remix of Hidden Sound by Technical Itch, Empty Studio by Limewax & SPL and many many more of the original cast of dark drum & bass pioneers. I really wanted to try to open myself up to an archaic element, and to open up the minds of my listeners.

Defiled Beauty (feat. Centaspike)

The creative guidance on ‘Defiled’ was always such that we wanted to push the Aggressor sound - creative texturing, meticulous tweaks, intense panning and pitching accompanied by cold synth textures and glitched out bridges. The third drop on this piece is an incredibly apt summary of the sound we’re trying to push.

Cold Dead Eyes (feat. Of God)

Ahhh, Of God! In my humble opinion, there’s not many fresh producers these days that can write a bass that can lead a tune quite as potently as these two. Chris and Joshua were sick of me constantly bugging them for project files (I think) and sent me through this jaw-dropper of a bassline along with a rough guide of what they were going for. I took this bass and built around it, following it fairly closely with the kick pattern, essentially using it as a blue print for a familiar and distinguishable beat structure.

A Means To An End

This tune was my first attempt at cross-genre experimentation, but to be perfectly honest, I don’t know what borders I was trying to cross with this one. I don’t know what genre I’ve ended up with. It was heavily inspired by artists such as Igorrr and King Cannibal and it’s pretty evident. For those of you that want to mix this tune, I wish you the best - it’s 220BPM and written in 3/4 time signature - good luck!

Symphonium (feat. Susiah)

The closing tune, ‘Symphonium’, was originally built to be a hair raising allusion to the twisted melodies created by music boxes in a different context. I approached Agnieszka (who, I can quite honestly say has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve heard of late) with this 120BPM bass project, which eventually became a creeping, stuttering joint. Her vocal work tied the project together beautifully, and this tune would be next to nothing without her input. I gave her the strict artistic direction to, ‘do whatever you want’, that she did, but incredibly tactfully, keeping the title relevant. After processing the vocals for different segments of the tune using granular repeat and drone texturing along with reverse reverb, it produced a spine chilling result. I couldn’t think of a better track to end the album with.

Mystification - 8 Core Inside (re-stock) (BHR003)

What does mystification mean? Confusion resulting from failure to understanding, or something designed to mystify or bewilder.

I’ve always been trying to keep these thoughts in my mind when I produce music. I have a lot of influencee from other music genres, and always trying to shape my songs into a dark, mystified mixture. And that’s happened to this album. I’ve tried to put everything together what You’d heard from me in the past years: drum’n’bass, darkstep, halfstep, techno, hardcore, metal. The title "8 Core Inside" is inspired by our computerised world, and my love for the core-based music. So this album is dedicated to the Core!

Feel The Core

I think this song perfectly represents the atmosphere of the whole album. When I wrote this tune, I wanted to make an adrenaline bomb. No big melodies, just pure, straight ahead music! Drum’n’bass and hardcore crossover from my sight.

Evidence

Once I saw an X-Files episode with these sick people who were living in inbreeding. Inbreeding is the reproduction from the mating of two genetically related parents. This dark and sick issue inspired me, wanted to make a song so deep, creepy and heavy like this illness. Mysterious atmosphere with darkstep rhythms.

Save Us

This is one of my favourite ones from the album! It contains everything what I want to represent. Soft melodies with aggressive structure and hardcore texture, based on drum’n’bass beats.

Vanity

The favourite sin of the devil (sample from the movie The Devil’s Advocate by Al Pacino). I love that movie, and I couldn’t pass this one out! This song is actually an older one, made about 3 years ago, but I didn’t want to waste it, so I renewed a little bit.

Tangle Of Life

If You are tired of everything, angry with the whole world, just want to be alone in peace, than You know what I felt while I was working on this one. Out of my way! Son’t speak to me! Just leave me alone! Or else I’ll tear You apart! Straight technoid drum’n’bass with some halfstep flavour.

Tell Me

I hate when somebody speaks behind my back, and is afraid of saying his opinion into my eyes. I don’t respect people who lie and cheat. These things are making me angry, but I’m hitting back with this tune, not with my fist! Stay real and speak the truth! This tracks is for the haters!

Fantasy (with Replicator)

We’ve known each other with Replicator Tebe for ages now, we’ve worked together for a few times in the past, and the final result was always good. The main theme is actually from tebe, he sent me one of his ideas. I’ve reworked a bit, put some of my stuffs into the song and it was ready. Fantasy is also an older song, but the fans really liked it at parties and in promo mixes, so I thought it will have a really good place on the album! I’m glad that Tebe agreed, thank You mate!

Unexplainable Feeling (2011 Rework)

The original was my very first released track by a record label. It was published by Black Hoe Recordings, and this was the first release of the label, together with “Our World”. The song is still one of the most famous ones from my released tunes. There are some remixes from this one, but I wanted to do my own pimped out version in 2011 style. I hope You’ll like it!

Some final thoughts… stay real, respect music and the artists, and FEEL THE CORE!

Black Hoe presents Special Vinyl Edition (BHR005EXTRA)

Black Hoe Recordings and Savage Tales have decided to celebrate the two killer parties - organised in November 2013 - with a Special Vinyl Edition again, which involves two occasions. Who are the contributors? The main character of the Hungarian Devastator's drum'n'bass / darkstep / crossbreed / breakcore stage is eRRe, while Peter Kurten, Savage and Micromakine also fascinate listeners on the Slovakian Savage Tales XXL Indoor. The Italian Micromakine, who dropped his first album on UNION, has made a transcription Peter Kurten and Savage’s collaboration, the smart and clean darkstep tune, called The True Enermy. The dark well-known drum’n’bass structure is torn by brutal hardcore kicks. A real monster was born! On the flip one of the crossbreed songs from the Resurrected compilation was re-interpreted by the eRRe and Hardlogik duo: darkstep again with some neuro and crossbreed effects, of course with the silly upbeats of the composers.
